Dr. Marat Ressin has led a 20-plus-year career as an internationally successful entrepreneur in business and real estate development. After completing his PhD in Economics with a specialization in “small business crisis management,” he gained extensive expertise in growing small businesses that attract investment, and has successfully reinvented and rehabilitated more than 30 businesses from a variety of industries.
In 2013, he became the first President of the York Entrepreneurship Development Institute (YEDI), a charitable University-linked accelerator whose mission is to provide top-tier free business education and mentorship to innovative entrepreneurs from any sector or industry. YEDI’s goal is to build and accelerate successful businesses and efficient non-profit organizations. In 2015, YEDI was ranked as the number one University Linked Accelerator in Ontario and the top three in North America.
A dedicated family man, Dr. Ressin is also involved in various other Jewish charitable organizations including playing a major role with the Jewish Russian Community Centre. Recently, he was elected President of the Canadian Zionist Federation and is Canada’s international delegate to the Forum.
Believing in the importance of social impact, Dr. Ressin has volunteered his knowledge to many non-profit organizations, helping them become more efficient in achieving their goals. A phenomenal supporter of Magen David Adom, and appreciating the fact that without this organization, saving lives in Israel would not be possible, he has led the way in inspiring many others to get involved with this life-saving organization.
In recognition of his dedication, Magen David Adom has proudly selected Dr. Marat Ressin as the 2023 Central Regional Honouree.
Womb-mates Gerald and Alex were raised by their parents Leslie and Gabriella, Hungarian holocaust survivors who believed that giving to charity, especially Jewish charities, was fundamental. This came with an understanding of the duties attendant with being part of the Jewish people.
Our responsibilities to our fellow Jew are never fully satisfied as long as there is a need in the community. While many may profess similar beliefs, our parents gave even when they did not have enough for themselves. Giving was mandatory. Excuses were not permitted.
Alex’s bride, Tova, was raised by her parents Nachum and Lea Shore with similar beliefs, and together, Alex and Tova have been able to instill those ideals into their three sons and granddaughters.
So why give? The most basic answer to this most important question is because they deserve and desperately need our assistance. “As a physician, I know that the difference between life and death is often timely state-of-the-art medical care,” says Alex.
Alex and Gerald are fortunate to work with hundreds of the most dedicated and talented medical professionals at True North Imaging. ‘Our organization is recognized as a leader in clinical practice, teaching, and research’.
Gerald and his wife Sheryl are grateful to have the opportunity to be involved in a number of organizations that assist our community, both in North America and in Israel. They have largely focused on Jewish outreach (kiruv) and have long supported such organizations as Momentum [formerly JWRP], NCSY, and Aish HaTorah. Gerald has been involved with Reena for more than twenty-five years, and is a past chair at the Reena Foundation. Finally, they have supported a myriad of Torah institutions in North America and Israel.
We are very proud to support Magen David Adom Canada and recognize the importance of the work it does by supporting the saving of lives. In supporting Magen David Adom Canada, we are thrilled to continue our parents’ legacy, as they were ardent supporters of the cause.
