The Winnipeg chapter of CMDA was resurrected in a bit of a roundabout way. Rebeca Kuropatwa, a freelance professional writer, was covering a story for the Jewish Tribune, about a CMDA event happening in Vancouver. Through researching this story, some members of the Vancouver chapter of CMDA (of which her mother, Miriam, is a member) asked if there was any relation. When Rebeca explained the connection, Vancouver CMDA chapter members asked if she would be interested in starting up a chapter in Winnipeg. Rebeca and her husband, Amichai Bakerman, decided to go for it. They formed a local chapter in March 2009, and became the group’s co-presidents. After a short while, the new chapter members learned that there were not one but at least two previous CMDA chapters in Winnipeg (and two members of those two different chapters, Sid Halpern and Larry Cohen, joined the present-day group). CMDA Winnipeg has since participated as a group in the Walk for Israel, the Run for Rights, and the Prophesy Conference; and has also put on two events (a screening of the film "The Original Promise" followed by a panel discussion with David Matas, Dr. James Christie, and Erez Rotem, and a Blood Donor Clinic with a First Aid Workshop for Kids). Other events are now in the planning stages, like school educational programs, speaking events, and more.
